‎ the drowning… waltzing my Matilda at dusk

Description
As a child the artist was transfixed by Banjo Patterson’s tragic poem Waltzing Matilda whose lyrics explore survival and injustice. This painting celebrates the majestic beauty of an Australian coastline that may be slowly drowning. The work is also a psychological study of an artist who may also be slowly drowning. The landscape hauntingly juxtaposes the artists two favourite places Byron Bay and Port Douglas. This painting was submitted to the Wynne Prize at the Art Gallery of NSW in 2023.
